01/12/2016 New Forklift Truck Attachments at SCA Improves Productivity

SCA is a leading global hygiene and forest products company that develops and produces sustainable personal care, tissue and forest products.

Sales are conducted in around 100 countries under many strong brands, including leading global brands TENA and Tork. The Group has about 44,000 employees worldwide and global sales in 2014 amounted to approximately EUR 11.4bn.

SCA’s product range consists of hygiene products, such as baby diapers, toilet paper, napkins, incontinence products, kitchen rolls, feminine-care products, facial tissues and handkerchiefs are used by millions of people and account for about 80 percent of the Group’s net sales. SCA also offer forest products such as publication papers, kraftliner (packaging papers), pulp, solid-wood products and renewable energy.

To assist with productivity and ensure safety when moving the diverse product range around site, SCA contacted B&B Attachments for its expertise. Established for over 35 years, B&B Attachments Ltd is the leading fork lift truck attachment company in the UK and Ireland. After a full briefing and site survey at SCA Prudhoe Mill in Northumberland, B&B recommended and supplied the hygiene and forest products company, with a range of specialist attachments to suit their specific requirements, when handling each product type. This included 20 KAUP Double Pallet Handlers.

The KAUP Double Pallet Attachment allows either one or two pallets to be handled at a time through two sets of hydraulically-operated forks, which function in a synchronized way, ensuring that the centre pick-up of the load is guaranteed. This motion provides a quick and efficient method of handling goods. The attachment has been designed specifically for transporting several pallets simultaneously, and can be quickly and easily altered to handle either single or pairs of palletized products.

The KAUP Rotating Tissue Roll Clamps supplied are well suited to SCA for the careful transport of paper reels. These attachments rotate through 360 degrees and are specifically designed to reduce reel damage through pad design and optimum clamping force.

Also supplied as part of the contract were Kaup T413 Bale Clamp attachments for waste and pulp paper handling and Kaup T351 fork rotators. The rotators are fundamental for onsite operations when loads require rotating. The rotators are used to empty containers, to turn palletised and non-palletised goods, and to deal with waste. The KAUP Rotators allow for optimal visibility when approaching loads, whilst increasing driver confidence and ensuring safe and secure handling. The hydraulic drive is located on the side away from the operator resulting in excellent visibility, enabling fast and reliable operation.
